I’m a little late with this post, but that’s alright. Had such busy week, hope yours went well! My fiancé and I headed to Amsterdam for the weekend and it was amazing. Its got to be one of my favorite European cities. I also love it because he’s Dutch and I get to experience the culture for the rest of my life 🙂
I always get asked, “what is your favorite thing to do there?” In a quick summary: Amsterdam has a lot to do, eat, and see! There’s plenty of windmills and tulips to check out – and in case you don’t get to see them – stop by ANY souvenir shop. Wandering and being out of place in the Red Light District is quite amusing. I’d suggest to take a canal cruise. It’s an hour and costs about ten euros. The boats pick you up right by Amsterdam Central Station and you see the entire city by boat. It’s lovely! As for museums, theres so many! The Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank’s House are the most popular. Be sure to get to Anne’s house early, the line to get tickets wraps all the way around the house. Right near there is the Westerkerk Church, they take about four to six people up at a time. You get an amazing 360 degree view of the city. The Heineken Factory has got to be a favorite though. I’ve gone there about 5 times. Everyone I travel with always wants to go, so I could probably be a tour guide now. You’ve gotta try a kaasouffle and stroopwaffel as well! & don’t leave the country without getting gouda cheese to bring home.
