First Impressions: Tatcha Bestsellers Set

So – Sephora had their annual Beauty Insider sale, and while I didn’t quite need anything, I was intrigued about trying the Tatcha products. I’ve heard so many great things about the brand that I did not know what to purchase first. After browsing the site for nearly an hour, I opted for the Tatcha Bestsellers Set aka The Art of Geisha Pure Skin. This is a 4-piece collection with travel sized skincare items customized to suit my skin-type.

One thing that I enjoy about Tatcha is that you can buy all the travel-sized items individually. It makes a great idea to test out before making the full-size purchase commitment. This set was $59. If you were to buy each of the items individually, it would cost about $80, so it’s a good value for your money. This gift set came in a sturdy purple box with a description sheet and of course the products. Inside includes:

  • PURE: one step camellia cleansing oil
  • POLISHED: classic rice enzyme powder
  • LUMINOUS: dewy skin mist
  • SUPPLE: moisture rich silk cream

One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil: This is one of the most gentle cleansing oils I’ve tried, so far. Normally I’m not an oil kinda gal. For some reason, “oil” scares me and thinks I’m going to be left with “oily” skin. It removes all of my face makeup and leaves the skin soft without any tackiness. I do have to use a few extra pumps when I have black eyeliner and mascara on, but overall I’m happy with the results.

The Classic Rice Enzyme Powder: It’s a water-activated enzyme powder cleanser and exfoliator all-in-one. After wet, it thickens into a cleanser. This is a great alternative to traditional scrubs, which gently removes dead skin without making my face feel irritated. The Classic Rice Enzyme Powder is extremely easy to use. All you have to do is pour a small amount into your hands and add a bit of water and mix. It lathers into a creamy foam. Then massage like a regular cleanser for about 20-30 seconds and rinse. The packaging is designed well for travel – it has an opening on the top with a small push-back cap. The small opening helps from over pouring the powder and also prevents the product from falling out. I can just throw it in my makeup bag and not be worried.

Dewy Skin Mist: Oh, I love this gentle spray to give a refresh to the face. The mist comes out fine and evenly. I know I’ve tried so many face mists that feel like a squirt gun and this does not do that – thank goodness. It’s small enough that I can bring it in my travel pouches, and the bottle is made of a thick glass,  which I thought would be a problem, but so far it’s not. I’ve brought it on two international trips and give myself a spritz in the sky. It doesn’t affect my makeup. The spray doesn’t smell like much of anything though.

Moisture Rich Silk Cream: I’ve tried loads of creams, so I wasn’t particularly excited to try this one. I’ve not seen any reviews or heard much talk about it. I just figured it would be ‘fine.’ After that being said, I tested it out for a week and went through quite a bit of it. It isn’t so much of a thick cream, but it is more of a gel-like cream. Its very light on the skin and layering with other products is very easy. It melts away nicely and evenly. I will be repurchasing the large size, and keeping this smaller size for a re-fill travel container.
